Dorchester will see the opening of a new tourist information point at Shire Hall Museum on Wednesday, May 10.

Visitors to what is being named the 'Super Tourist Information Point', or TIP for short, will have access to a wide range of materials to help them make the most of their time in Dorchester. These include leaflets, brochures, monthly what's on information, and a tablet with access to the Discover Dorchester website.

The TIP will be stocked with Discover Dorchester leaflets, commissioned by Dorchester Town Council and Dorchester Tourism Partnership. They highlight attractions, free places to visit, local amenities, and facilities. These leaflets also include a handy map of Dorchester town centre and Poundbury.

In addition, the Super Tourist Information Point will have a user-friendly tablet display that offers access to the Discover Dorchester website, which features a wealth of useful information about Dorchester including events, local attractions, resources, and blogs.

Discover Dorchester can also be downloaded as an app. The website and app were jointly created by Dorchester Town Council, Dorchester BID, and Dorchester Tourism Partnership and are now run by the town council.

The TIP will be located within the historic Shire Hall Museum on High West Street, a popular attraction for visitors to Dorchester. The museum is in the heart of the town and easily accessible by car or public transport.

Visitors will be able to access the TIP during Shire Hall opening times from Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm. The TIP will be staffed by friendly, knowledgeable volunteers who are passionate about the town and eager to share their local insights.

It is important to note that the TIP and website will not serve as a booking platform for travel or accommodation nor a council help desk.

There are lots of locations across town where you can pick up leaflets and information about visiting Dorchester and we are so grateful to these premises for helping tourists out and promoting what Dorchester has to offer.

Dorchester Town Council and the Tourism Partnership would like to thank Dorchester BID for funding the TIP equipment and Shire Hall Museum for being an excellent host.

Matilda Manley, tourism development officer at Dorchester Town Council, said: "We believe that this new resource will be an invaluable asset to both visitors and locals alike. It is fantastic to have a dedicated location in town where visitors can pick up leaflets and find out about events.

"We hope that the Shire Hall TIP will serve as the go-to spot for tourists seeking recommendations for the best ways to enjoy their time in Dorchester."

Nina Corey from Shire Hall Museum added: "We're delighted to be hosting the Super Tourist Information Point at Shire Hall Museum. Our friendly team already provide local knowledge and help people to make the most of our amazing town, so this is a natural next step for us. We look forward to welcoming visitors to the Super TIP - whether locals or tourists, all are welcome."

Phil Gordon from the Dorchester BID said: "The Dorchester BID is delighted to be a key funding partner for our town's new Super TIP based at Shire Hall Museum. We felt this was an perfect location, being an attraction in its own right and being close to major car parks in town."
