Under the spotlight: The Club House

The moules and frites at The Club House

I wasn't aware that The Club House in West Bexington offered moules and frites on a Thursday evening and only found out recently so I had to try it out.

Alongside its normal menu, there is also a choice moules with three different sauces - Thai, lemongrass, green chilli and coconut broth, mariniere and 'Nduja' and fennel seeds, as well as a trio of Dorset or Cornish oysters.

I went for the 'Nduja - St Austell mussels steamed in a sauce of spicy Italian sausage, fennel seeds, garlic and white wine - which came with a side of fries.

A large bowl of mussels came out piping hot and the tasty sauce had a lovely kick, not too hot or overpowering, full of flavour and all washed down with a Shirley Temple. If you wanted something alcoholic, a list of wines that best complement each different mussel dish was also printed.

The service could not have been better and the staff were excellent and so friendly.

A nice touch was the pieces of mint rock branded with The Club House that were given with the bill.

For £12.50 it is an excellent deal, more than I could eat, and I'll be back to try the other flavours.

The Club House has an incredible location looking out over the sea and although it was dark, it was lovely to look out on the lights and garden.

As well as a moules and frites evening, The Club House is also offering two Sunday lunches for £25 and has two murder mystery evenings planned this December.
