Visitor centre at Thomas Hardy's birthplace looking for new volunteers

The National Trust in North and West Dorset is looking for new volunteers to join the team at Hardy's Birthplace Visitor Centre as a visitor welcome volunteer.

The visitor centre is set in Thorncombe Wood, in the heart of Hardy County, at Higher Bockhampton, nrear Dorchester.

The National Trust is looking to build on its team of volunteers who create a warm welcome for visitors to the centre, the woods and Hardy's Cottage, and help visitors get all they need from their day out.

"Our volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and interests and work a range of different hours that suit their lifestyle," said Emma Ayling, senior volunteer and community cfficer of the National Trust.

"If you love meeting people, are passionate about local history and bringing it alive, and looking for an opportunity to learn new skills, then come along to our open day to find out more."

'The open day will take place on Monday, May 22 from 1pm to 3pm at Hardy's Birthplace Visitor Centre, Thorncombe Wood, Higher Bockhampton Dorchester (DT2 8QH).

"This is a fantastic opportunity to meet the team, find out more information about role and how you can get involved," added Emma.
