Weldmar Hospicecare has had its 'outstanding' rating extended by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The CQC is the independent regulator for all health and social care services in England. They are responsible for monitoring, inspecting and regulating organisations to make sure that services, such as Weldmar, meets fundamental standards of quality and safety for the care that is provided.

Although no physical visit by inspectors has been able to take place during Covid-19, the charity remotely provided evidence of care, and shared policies and procedures as part of the reassessment.

The CQC also reviewed detailed information about infection prevention measures during Covid, Weldmar's commitment to equality, diversity and inclusion, and the high level of safeguarding training delivered to all colleagues across the organisation.

'Outstanding' is the highest possible rating awarded by the CQC.

CEO Caroline Hamblett said: "We are absolutely delighted that Weldmar Hospicecare has once again been recognised as an outstanding organisation and we pay huge thanks to every single colleague across the charity, whether paid or voluntary, ensuring that our services are safe, well led, responsive, effective and above all else, caring.

"Throughout the pandemic, we have ensured that all of our services can still be provided, at our inpatient unit and throughout the community. Our colleagues have continued to provide our high quality care with the addition of PPE restrictions and other social distancing guidance that has been in place, and actually provided more bereavement and clinical care than ever before."
