The Weymouth Land Train is offering a second route along the Esplanade this summer.

The last time that the Weymouth Land Train was allowed to travel on the actual Esplanade was in 2019 when the Sealife Centre offered a route between the Sealife centre and the Sealife Tower at the pavilion end of the beach.

Later in 2019, Tony Poole purchased the train from Sealife but was not allowed to travel on the Esplanade due to the train using regular diesel rather than a greener source of fuel.

However, Weymouth and Dorset Councils have now granted a licence this year to enable the train to run again along the Esplanade, from opposite the Gloucester Bars to the Sealife Centre, as it can now operate using a greener fuel source instead of regular diesel.

This second route will be in operation until the end of August. The routes do not run concurrently as there is only one land train.

Tony Poole, owner of Weymouth Land Train, said: "This useful transport link is a favourite with tired families returning from Weymouth beach to the car parks at Lodmoor and those visiting the Sealife Centre. The yellow route will operate in the mornings and afternoons only on the Esplanade.

"The Land Train will be using HVO fuel – hydrotreated vegetable oil – a synthetic diesel alternative that is made from completely renewable raw materials. We are excited about the new route and providing a link from the Lodmoor car parks to the beach and town centre."

Yellow Route – Beach from opposite The Gloucester to Sealife Centre from 9am – 10.30 and then again from 4.15pm – 6.15pm

Blue Route – Harbour from 11am – 3pm (every 30 mins)

Route maps and more information can be found on the website www.weymouthlandtrain.com or by visiting the Weymouth Land Train Facebook page.
