Whole host of events to celebrate Dorset Museum's Hardy's Wessex exhibition

As part of its new Hardy's Wessex exhibition, Dorset Museum is holding a number of events.
The exhibition takes a fresh look at the Victorian novelist and poet, Thomas Hardy, in the Wessex landscapes that shaped his view of the world. His story has been retold in new ways by the museum collections, from period costumes to personal letters, art to archaeology.
Here's what's taking place:
Museum after hours
June 23, 5pm to 7pm
Enjoy an opportunity to explore Dorset Museum after hours at this free late opening, before this month's lecture at 7pm.
Have a go at sketching in the Hardy's Wessex exhibition in the 'sketch and de-stress' event, facilitated by volunteers.

Hardy's Wessex by Harriet Still
June 23, 7pm to 8pm
In this lecture, join Hardy's Wessex curator and one of the UK's leading experts on Thomas Hardy, Harriet Still, to hear more about the themes and stories of Dorset Museum's landmark Thomas Hardy exhibition, which spans three other museums in Dorset and Wiltshire.

Sunday ArtyFacts: Victorian silhouettes
July 3, 10.30am to 12.30pm
Create your own Victorian silhouette and Victorian-style frame. Make your own drawn or painted Victorian portrait inspired by the Hardy's Wessex exhibition, the Hardy's Gallery and portraits in the Artists' Dorset Gallery.

Robin Mackenzie Wood Engraving Workshop
September 17, 10am to 4pm
This one-day workshop is perfect for beginners looking to learn a new technique, or for those who have done a little engraving and wish to progress their technique further.
Robin Mackenzie is an elected member of The Society of Wood Engravers and has exhibited his work all over the UK. Wessex Museums commissioned Robin to create the Wessex map and vignettes which feature in the four Hardy's Wessex exhibitions. He also creates prints for books, magazines merchandise and works from his open studio at Walford Mill Crafts in Wimborne.
