Will you be joining the record-bidding assembly of ghosts in Dorchester?
Spooky season is once again upon us and with a town as ancient as Dorchester, there are bound to be ghosts making an appearance this Halloween…
From the bloody thirsty Judge Jeffries to Roman soldiers seen patrolling the forests, Dorchester is famous for its ghosts.
To celebrate this spooktacular heritage, Dorchester is planning to bring together all its ghosts and ghouls on Saturday, 28 October at 4.30pm for a twilight record attempt!
The current record for most people gathered dressed as ghosts is 560 and is held by Mercy School Mounthawk in Tralee, Ireland.
The town of Dorchester is hoping to scare this record out of the pumpkins by gathering hundreds of ghosts together in Brewery Square for an evening of Halloween fun.
Ghosts are being asked to gather wearing their most ghoulish outfits (a white sheet) for the official count at 4.30pm.
As well as the record attempt, Brewery Square is hosting an array of family-friendly fun to keep ghosts and ghouls of all ages entertained. With a disco, pumpkin carving, balloon modelling, stilt walkers and even trick or treat - it's set to be a Halloween celebration like no other.
Matilda Manley, Dorchester Tourism Development Officer says: "Dorchester has long been known for its array of ghosts and horrible histories, this Halloween half term was the perfect time to celebrate this and bring all our ghosts together in one spot.
"We're urging ghosts and ghouls of all ages to join us in Brewery Square for our world record attempt - we're very confident we're going to get the numbers to smash the record and put Dorchester on the supernatural map! As well as our record attempt, we've got an afternoon and evening of family fun, a great way to bring the town together this half term."
"We are encouraging all attendees to head to the Facebook Group to register interest in this spooktacular gathering."
With tree-lined streets, a wealth of independent shops, local food & drink, events, museums and live music, there has never been a better time to visit Dorchester.
Brewery Square has been carefully constructed to showcase the stunning history of Dorchester, and its vibrant future. With major chains and independent shops, art galleries, homewares, gifts, an array of restaurants, it's the perfect location to peruse with the whole family.
After an evening of spooking, why not head to one of Brewery Square's many eateries, hit the cinema, or enjoy a cocktail in one of the bars. Discover Dorchester, Discover Brewery Square.
Tara Bailey, Centre Manager at Brewery Square adds: "Brewery Square sits at the heart of the community in Dorchester, bringing together old and new, multiples and independents - it's a real hive of activity. We're excited to support this spooktacular event, offering something for all the family whilst supporting our local Dorchester economy. After speaking with the local community, local schools and local businesses, we're excited to break the ghost world record attempt - adding to Dorchester's ghoulish reputation!"
