Discover Dorchester.

A great opportunity to Discover Dorchester - Explore our historic market town, which is the county town of Dorset, with its wealth of heritage and historic buildings.

The event will run from Friday 16th September to Sunday 18th September exploring Poundbury on Friday, Fordington on Saturday and Dorchester town centre on Sunday.

On Friday 16th, there will be a tour of the Poundbury estate and architecture starting from PiP Cafe at 2pm.

On Saturday 17th, Fordington will celebrate its heritage from 11am to 4pm. St George's Church will be open and there will be guided tours and talks about Fordington, Rev Moule and Thomas Hardy from Mark Chutter, Thomas Hardy Society and Brian Bates, local author and historian, will talk and display information about Fordington and Infanticide. There will also be displays of the Mill Street Mission, Live Music with Jerry Bird and much more.

On Sunday, 18th, there will be FREE displays, tours and activities in Keep Military Museum, Shire Hall Museum and Dorset Museum. The Ancient Wessex Network and Portable Antiquities will be at the Roman Town House. There will be guided tours of Dorchester Prison, the Corn Exchange South Street and the picturesque Antelope Walk as well living history. Visit KeeP 106 at the Town Pump to try your hand at Morse code, pick up an activity sheet and decipher the Naval flags displayed around town. There will be quizzes and competitions for all the family.
