Dorchester walk of the month: Pushchair and wheelchair friendly route around the town

By Lottie Welch

9th Mar 2022 | Local News

Every month we will be sharing a circular walk in and around our local area with directions and photos. We use the OS Map app, which is very useful if you are out walking.

If you subscribe to our newsletter, you will be able to receive the walk first and be able to enjoy it over the weekend.

This month, we wanted to choose a flat route suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs, so it is a one-mile route in the town.

Start at the Terracotta Warrior Museum in Salisbury Street and go up Salisbury Street, passing San Telmo Fish and Chips and up towards the Salvation Army church. Go up to the left of the church towards Salisbury Fields, passing with Salisbury Fields on your left.

Continue and at the end of the path, turn left. Stay on this road, going past the church and green on your left before turning right to go down High Street Fordington. At the end of the road and mini roundabout, turn left.

Opposite Lubbecke Way, take the left fork in the pavement and turn right to go over the bridge and turn left onto Mill Street. At River Crescent take the path opposite and continue walking alongside the river on our left.

You will come out on London Road, turn left and you will be back at the start.

This walk is just a suggestion, you can of course take any different routes you wish to make it more direct or make it longer. Always take extra care where the ground is uneven or wet.

Please leave gates as you find them - if you opened it, close it.

Please keep dogs on leads around livestock.
