A Crowdfunder appeal to raise £5,000 to bring rare Hardy treasures on show has been a success.

Dorset Museum along with Poole Museum, The Salisbury Museum and Wiltshire Museum launched the appeal to conserve the objects. These include Hardy's landscape first sketch 'from nature', 'The Trumpet-Major' notebook full of Hardy's research from his Napoleonic era, his grandmother's kettle, the tombstone design for Hardy's dog, an extract from his wife, Emma's, memoirs, a portrait of Hardy and his mother and many more.

They will form a hardy exhibition across the Wessex Museums in summer 2022 - the largest collection of Hardy objects ever displayed to the public at one time.

The project received the support of patron Lord Julian Fellowes, president of the Thomas Hardy Society, Tim Laycock, artistic director of the New Hardy Players and historian of science, Angelique Richardson.

So far, the Crowdfunder has raised £5,205. All money raised above the target will still be used for the exhibition.
