West Dorset MP Chris Loder is urging residents to have their say about proposals for some villages around Dorchester to be included in the North Dorset Constituency.

The Boundary Commission for England is proposing that the villages of Sydling St Nicholas, Godmanstone, Cerne Abbas, Minterne Magna, Piddletrenthide, Piddlehinton and Buckand Newton transfer to the North Dorset constituency and the West Dorset constituency made smaller.

The aim is to make parliament fairer by giving each MP a roughly similar number of voters.

The Boundary Commission is holding upcoming hearings at Dorchester Corn Exchange on Thursday, March 31 and Friday, April 1 and residents are encouraged to attend.

Mr Loder said: "This is one of the few opportunities for local residents affected by this change to share their opinion with the Boundary Commission about its proposals, especially if they think their village should remain in the same constituency as Dorchester."

The Boundary Commission's current review will conclude with a report and recommendations in June 2023 and come into effect from 2024.
