Review: Brilliant events at Dorchester Literary Festival

It was wonderful that Dorchester Literary Festival could return this year with live events.

From October 9 to 16, the festival hosted a brilliant range of speakers and authors.

I got tickets to the last two events of the festival - Graeme Hall 'All Dogs Great and Small' and Jeremy Vine 'The Diver and the Lover'. I also got tickets to Alexandra Shulman 'Clothes and Other Things That Matter' but this was unfortunately cancelled.

Graeme Hall was in conversation with BBC Radio Solent presenter Steve Harris and spoke about his book, All Dogs Great and Small.

Graeme is the famous dog trainer and presenter of Channel 5's hit show 'Dogs Behaving (Very) Badly' and has been named 'Britain's best dog trainer' by The Telegraph. He has helped thousands of people, including celebrities, with their pets with a motto of 'Any dog, any age, any problem'.

It was fascinating to hear about his life and how he didn't get into dog training until later on in life - after 21 years working at Weetabix - and his three and a half golden rules for dog training.

He is currently filming for a new series of the show.

The book covers what he has learnt training dogs and I was delighted to pick up a copy and get it signed!

Next, also in the Dorford Centre, was BBC Radio 2 and Channel 4 Egghead's presenter - amongst many other things - Jeremy Vine.

He spoke about his novel, The Diver and the Lover with a compelling presentation exploring the connection between a small drawing of Christ that caused quite a stir, artist Salvador Dali and a stuntman.

He weaves a fictional story of two sisters who have travelled from England

He kept the whole audience interested and captivated throughout, so I had to buy a copy of the book and read the story - which I was also able to get signed!

If there are any Shaun Keaveny fans - former BBC Radio 6 presenter - I was able to ask him where the 'cats in gangs' clip originated, something Jeremy Vine said that was taken out of context and regularly played on Keaveny's show.

They were both such different authors and events, but both equally brilliant, and we can't wait to see what next year's Dorchester Literary Festival has in store!
