A wonderful and quirky thing about Cheriton Care Home is that it has a very special resident.

Now that the days have warmed up, the Dorchester Care Home on Weymouth Avenue has welcomed back Trott the tortoise for the summer now that he has emerged from hibernation, much to the delight of everyone there.

This year, he has moved into his brand-new, specially built home, which he can enjoy when he's not spending time with residents or exploring the spacious, secure and enclosed gardens.

Trott, who has become a very popular character with residents and staff, belongs to Cheriton's office manager, Colleen.

It's not everywhere you can benefit from high-quality care and enjoy the company of Trott, as well as numerous other wildlife that visits residents in the care home's gardens. It is the perfect place to sit and enjoy watching robins, finches, blackbirds and others - as well as a squirrel every now and then - which are attracted to the bird feeders and table.

But it's not just wildlife watching the garden is great for, Cheriton Care Home has its own gardening club which meets regularly to discuss planting ideas and plans.

Cheriton Care Home is run by care provider Agincare, which marks its 35th anniversary this year, and staff at the company have been awarded Covid Hero Medals for their amazing work during the pandemic.
