It's been another successful year for the much-loved supersleuth competition, with some participants even discovering new shops.

The Dorchester BID 'Where's Snowy?' competition was back over Christmas with lots of Christmas-related questions, with answers hidden in local shops.

Scarlett Barrow came in first place in the eleven years and over group.

She said: "I can't believe I won after entering so late. Due to having a major operation at the end of November, I could only start collecting clues after Christmas."

In second place was 13-year-old Oliver Naylor. He said: "It was really nice to see all the shops open again after the past two years. I found participating in the competition enjoyable and worth the effort."

And in third place was 12-year-old Caitlin Batt.

In the under 11-years-old group, 10-year-old Ashleigh Bartlett came in first.

She said: "We enjoyed hunting around the town for Snowy and discovered several new shops, including M&M Bags and Bargains."

In second place was six-year-old Josh King, who said: "I was so excited to hear that I'd come second in the competition and look forward to doing more in the future."

In third place was five-year-old Toby Buddin.

The winners received £30, £25 or £15 vouchers to spend in Dorchester and John Fiori, owner of The Horse with The Red Umbrella donated a meal for four at his café in High West Street to both the first prize winners.

Neil Strudwick, DBID chairman, said: "It's an absolute joy to see these young people enjoying exploring the town and it's great chatting to them and their families when they visit the shop. It also gives us the opportunity to showcase some of our stock. We often get new customers as a result of these competitions."

The supersleuth competitions are designed to encourage children with their parents and other relatives to explore the town, not just for clues to find and solve, but also to discover many new shops with their diverse offerings.

Phil Gordon project director at DBID, said: "These competitions are always fun with a little educational element too sometimes.

"We get so many positive comments from the kids, parents and grandparents who enjoy the thrill of the hunt and shop owners all enjoy engaging with the families and it has become quite a valuable part of helping the children develop their social skills.

"I am really excited about this year's summer competition that DBID is partnering with the excellent team at the Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum for a really intriguing new supersleuth idea, but you will have to wait a little while for more on that."
