COUNCILLOR Andy Canning has been chosen as Dorchester's next Mayor, the second time he will have held the position.

Cllr Canning, who is also a Dorset Council member, will be taking over from Cllr Robin Potter who has held the position three times.

The West Ward Lib Dem councillor was selected at a panel meeting last week and will take up the position at a ceremony, expected to be held in the Corn Exchange, on May 19th.

Cllr Canning has held a number of positions with both councils and, among other roles, currently chairs the county-wide Pension Fund committee.
