Litter Free Dorset is calling on shops to remove disposable barbecues from sale.

With the weather getting warmer and brighter, Litter Free Dorset has renewed its call this year for businesses to stop selling disposable barbecues. As well as this, encouraging everyone to choose alternative options, such as reusable barbecues and picnics this summer season. 

Supermarkets Waitrose and Aldi are already leading the way by removing disposable barbecues and Litter Free Dorset would like to see more shops following in their footsteps.

Why is Litter Free Dorset calling for an end to disposable barbecues?

• Disposable barbecues are often inappropriately disposed of, sometimes resulting in wildfire, with devastating environmental, social and economic impact
• Disposable barbecues and unsustainable - single use and non-recyclable, so destined for landfill or incineration, which containing charcoal, often from unsustainable sources, contributing to deforestation
• Disposable barbecues pose a considerable safety risk to beach visitors, often being littered, left under the sand, causing injury

If you notice disposable barbecues for sale in your local shops, you can download and share Litter Free Dorset's letter to businesses with stores near you to help spread the message. The letter is supported by Dorset Council and the Urban Heaths Partnership.
