Celebrate fearless knight St George in Fordington this Saturday with a range of events
A St George's Day Fair is being held on Fordington Green on Saturday, April 23 from 1pm to 4pm.
There will be a beer tent, cake stall, afternoon tea, plant stall, bric-a-brac, raffle, Tudor dancing and more.
Music will be provided by Durnovaria Silver Band, One Voice Choir and Dorset for Singing, with Festus Derrimen also entertaining crowds.
St George's Day remembers St George, England's patron saint. The anniversary of his death, which is usually observed on April 23, is seen as England's national day, and has been celebrated for hundreds of years.
Like many saints, St George was described as a martyr after he died for his Christian faith. It is believed that during the persecutions of the Emperor Diocletian in the early 4th century, St George protested against the persecution of Christians and was executed for refusing to make a sacrifice in honour of the pagan gods.
Legend has it that he slayed a dragon to save a princess.
