TRAIN services were disrupted and road traffic delayed after a lorry crashed into a level crossing near Woodsford Quarry in Dorchester today (Wednesday, 14 August).

It was reported that the vehicle, the only one involved in the incident, hit a barrier.

The road was temporarily closed between Lewell and Crossways to allow emergency services to deal with the incident.

A Dorset Police spokesperson said: "We would ask motorists to please seek alternative routes."

A spokesperson for South Western Railway said: "A problem at a level crossing affected the railway between Dorchester South and Moreton Dorset. Trains may be cancelled, delayed or revised because of this problem.

"We have been informed that trains can now run at a reduced speed on all lines and disruption is still expected until 3pm."

At 6pm, the road closure was lifted.
