Six new history walk guides created by Stepping into Nature will take you on fascinating journey through Dorset's towns.

The guides aim to unveil the region's rich history and promote wellbeing through the beauty of the outdoors.

Designed for history enthusiasts and curious explorers alike, these engaging walks provide a perfect opportunity to delve into Dorset's past without needing prior historical knowledge.

Using a collection of old photographs, often from postcards, these guides allow walkers to witness the changes and preservation that have occurred over the last century, encouraging thought provoking conversation on route.

Each history walk covers a relaxed distance of approximately one to two miles, taking around 1 hour and 30 minutes to complete.

This generous timeframe allows walkers to not only discover fascinating historical titbits, but also take the time to soak in the natural beauty of their surroundings.

Steep hills and difficult terrain are avoided in the routes, ensuring that everyone, regardless of age or ability, can enjoy these delightful journeys. Plus, most of the walks are dog-friendly, meaning furry companions can join in the exploration too!

Stepping into Nature is led by the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty Partnership and the creation of these guides has been funded through the National Lottery Community Fund.

The new walk locations include Bridport, Beaminster, Strurminster Newton, Shaftesbury, Wareham and Abbotsbury which add to the existing locations of Sherborne, Eastern Dorchester and Fordington, Weymouth, Swanage, Blandford Forum and Cerne Abbas.

Steph Aburrow, Stepping into Nature project officer, said: "We are thrilled to introduce these six new history walk guides as part of our Stepping into Nature project.

"Together with Dorset Council's Senior Archaeologist Steve Wallis, we have created a unique opportunity for individuals to connect with Dorset's history while immersing themselves in the beauty of our natural surroundings.

These walks offer a chance to uncover hidden gems, rejuvenate your spirits, and create new memories."

To make these history walks accessible to all, Stepping into Nature offer two convenient options for getting the guides. You can request a complimentary physical copy to be delivered via post, or you can download a PDF version.

Both can be done from the official Walk Dorset's History page on the Picnic in the Parks website at picnicintheparks.org.uk or by calling Steph on 01305 224788.
