An unused shower block at a sports club near Dorchester is to be converted into a café.

Dorset Council has granted permission for the change of use at the Milton Abbas Sports Club off the Blandford Road recreation ground, including the use of part of the site for parking and a sitting out area.

It is hoped the new use will not only benefit the community but encourage more sporting activities on the village recreation ground.

The building to be converted, which also includes storage space, has not been used for at least five years.

The club says they hope the café will provide a warm and welcoming space for the community and will also include disabled access, allowing spectators to watch outdoor sport in the warm.

Where possible locally sources food and drink will be sold.

The building will be wooden timber-clad with wooden windows and doors and outdoor furniture for use in good weather.
