Dorchester Arts' new spring season brochure is here - but it's not a performer that's the cover star

Dorchester Arts new spring season brochure has been launched - with its new seating being the star of the show.

The programme of upcoming events is now available, but instead of featuring a performer on the cover, the team has chosen a photo of the new seats at Dorchester Corn Exchange.

Artistic director Mark Tattersall said: "We are so thrilled with our new seating system at the Corn Exchange that we decided it had to be our cover star this season.

"Our performers and audiences have waited a long time for better facilities to arrive in the county town. With new sound, new lighting, new projection and comfy seats - all with a great view - those facilities have now arrived.

"The experience is a world away from what people have been used to, and the feedback from audiences has been great."

When plans for a new theatre at The Maltings in Brewery Square were shelved, Dorchester Arts pledged to deliver better arts facilities for the town. With support from Dorchester Town Council and Dorset Council, the first part of that plan has been delivered at the Corn Exchange.

The next step will be reopening the refurbished theatre at The Thomas Hardye School in the early summer, and the first shows there are going on sale soon via Dorchester Arts.

The spring season at the Corn Exchange features a mix of music, comedy, theatre and children's entertainment. In addition, a whole host of events will be taking place between March 8 and 15 when Luke Jerram's Mars visits the venue.

The brochure is available from outlets around Dorchester or during office hours from the reception desk at the town council offices in North Square. Details of all events can be found on the What's on pages of the Dorchester Arts website.
