We've started a new weekly feature - business of the week - in which we highlight a local business on our local list.

This week it's Spike Fitness, a fitness facility that's focused on personalised training and welcoming environment.

Derek Clark had been working in other gyms before, but during lockdown, he and Kim Wheeler came up with the idea to open Spike Fitness in April 2020. For many months they have been holding sessions online and "teaching people in their living rooms".

They can offer personal training one-to-one sessions, bootcamps, kick boxercise classes and more in a bespoke gym.

They offer a limited number of memberships to keep a personal approach with it being "like a bunch of friends".

Spike Fitness is like a community and as well as recommendations between family and friends, it also offers an exercise referral scheme for those with an existing medical or health condition, or even those who just need some extra support, guidance or motivation.

They can create an exercise package around the client and those interested are encouraged to pop in and talk to Derek or Kim about the gym and what they can offer.

It has only been open a short amount of time, but Spike Fitness has already won awards, including winning Dorchester and Poundbury Business Awards' health, beauty and fitness category.
