Churches from across Dorchester are to come together for a market stall event, to raise funds for Christian Aid, at the United Church on Saturday, October 16.

Among the churches taking part are St George's Fordington, St Peter's Dorchester, the Quakers, United Church, Dorchester Baptist Church and St Mary's. They will be joined by Fairtrade and charity Freedom from Torture.

The event takes place just a few weeks before the start of the important Conference of the Parties (COP26) discussions in Glasgow.

Dorchester and District Christian Aid chairman, Tony Boyden, said the market stall event would focus on the upcoming negotiations.

"Time is running out and the planet is over-heating," he said. "It is vital that we see governments from across the globe meet their past pledges to give money to help less developed countries move to a low carbon economy.

"We can all play our part in tackling climate change - taking small changes to our lifestyles do help make a difference."

The new recipe book produced by the group, Cooking for Life, which features a number of low carbon and sustainable dishes, will also be on sale, price £10.

The deputy mayor of Dorchester, Richard Biggs, will be opening the event at 10am and there will be refreshments and a home-made soup lunch available for purchase. Entry to the event is free.

The following day Christian Aid's Rob Pearce will be guest speaker at the annual ecumenical service at the United Church at 4pm, which will be led by the Rev John Yarrien.
