Many in Dorchester and the surrounding area were brought together to celebrate the coronation of King Charles III and Queen Camilla over the Bank Holiday weekend.

From school activities to live music and special offers in local pubs, celebrations were held across the community.

Local, national and international reporters descended on Poundbury for the weekend – an urban extension of Dorchester endorsed by King Charles III himself when he was the Prince of Wales – with new agencies keen to get the views of residents who live in the 'King's town'.

Celebrations in Poundbury included a cream tea at Dorchester Community Church on Friday, hosted by Age UK, as well as a family fun day on the Great Field on Sunday, organised by Dorchester Lions Club.

In Dorchester itself, a free community party was held at Salisbury Field despite the poor weather. Staged by the town council, the event included entertainment from The Decadents, Laura Sharley and the Prince of Wales School and guests, as well as the lighting of a beacon.

Children, families and staff from the Prince of Wales School in Dorchester also celebrated with a family street party on Friday,

Independent, family-run brewery, bottle shop and tap room, Copper Street Brewery, held a coronation beer festival across the Bank Holiday weekend, while local pubs with royal connects – including The King's Arms and The Duchess of Cornwall in Poundbury – also hosted celebrations and special offers.
