A community event using large inflatable sculptures to explore disability and inclusion is coming to Dorchester's Borough Gardens.

On Monday, August 16 and Tuesday, August 17, Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum is hosting 'Jason and the Argonauts on Tour'.

Free to attend, the two-day event will feature inflatable sculptures created by award-winning artist Jason Wilsher-Mills, along with pop-up stalls from local disability groups and music.

Jason Wilsher-Mills is a renowned disabled artist who has collaborated with cultural organisations across the country, including ITV, Shape Arts and 20-21 Visual Arts Centre.

A multi-disciplinary artist, Jason uses digital technology, 3D printing, as well as traditional painting to bring his art to life.

He said: "I am so excited to be working with Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum once again this summer for a special two-day community event.

"My inflatable sculptures were inspired by my ancient Greek namesake, who sought out the bravest Greek heroes to travel with him on an epic journey. I have found new heroes in the disabled communities I've worked with across the UK.

"Disabled voices need to be heard, especially at a time where, in some parts of the UK, there is a 300 per cent increase in crimes against disabled people.

"I am proud to bring these unique stories to life through my art and I'm looking forward t sharing them with visitors at The Borough Gardens this summer."

Visitors will be able to interact with Jason's sculptures using an augmented reality app, created by Jason. By using the app, visitors will be able to discover hidden content and explore Jason's virtual gallery. The 'Jason Residential' app can be downloaded via the app store or Google Play.

Abbie King, director of Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum, said: "We're thrilled to welcome Jason Wilsher-Mills back to Shire Hall this summer.

"'Jason and the Argonauts on Tour' will be a fun, colourful and interactive community event, but with a powerful message of equality and inclusion at its core.

"Jason has worked with disabled communities across the UK, heling them to tell their stories through art and technology. We're proud to be working with Jason again and helping to share the stories of a community that is so often forgotten."

Visitors to The Borough Gardens can also enjoy music from DJ Dapper Dan. The only reggae DJ who is also a town crier - at Wimborne Minster - DJ Dapper Dan has been spinning tunes for more than 40 years, from the Sergeants' Mess at USAF bases to internationally renowned festivals. After contracting polio at the age of 18 months, he has experienced the effects and challenges of disability and advocates for disabled people navigating the complexity of the medical, care and benefits system.

Following 'Jason and the Argonauts on Tour', Shire Hall Historic Courthouse Museum will be hosting a ground-breaking virtual reality work created by Jason from Thursday, August 19.

Described as his most ambitious work to date, 'The Wackiest Race: Jason vs the System' is a virtual reality experience which tells the stories of disabled people's experiences of the benefits system.
