Thefts of wallets and purses in the local area have sparked a warning from Dorchester Neighbourhood Policing Team.

The police say that offenders stand close and distract by placing a magazine or other flat object over the top of the bag or pocket, then remove items.

A spokesperson for Dorchester Police added: "Please be aware of your surroundings, keep items in zipped/ sealed bags or use inside pockets when able.

"Should you witness any of the behaviour please report at the time via 101 or alternatively [email protected]."
