A Dorchester school is to have solar panels fitted to the roof of the building.

Manor Park Church of England first school, off Mellstock Avenue, is the latest public building to benefit from a 'green' grant offered to Dorset Council by the Government.

The school is to have 251 solar panels on various south and westward facing roofs in six arrays – capable of producing 87KW of power.

Each of the panels will be of half-cell design, in black, with a black frame and white backsheet measuring 996mm x 1689 mm.

Other local projects for solar installations, arranged through Dorset Council, include panels on the roof of County Hall and on both the Purbeck School and Purbeck Sports Centre at Wareham, together with similar installations at the Ridgeway Social and Education Centre in Weymouth and Mountjoy School in Beaminster.
