Dorchester will be turning back time later this month when tanks will rumble down its High Street

Local News by Nub News Reporter 4 minutes ago

ON Saturday, 20 June, the ground under Dorchester is going to shake as Brewery Square undergoes a massive, full-throttle transformation into a living 1940s scene.

The main event of the weekend is the arrival of the legendary Armour & Embarkation convoy a world-class spectacle of roaring engines and heavy Armor that draws spectators from all over the country.

This isn't a typical museum display where you stand behind velvet ropes and read plastic signs, it is an entirely interactive, and noisy step back in time. Visitors will stand face-to-face with the massive steel machines that defined a generation.

Instead of waiting on the pavement, visitors can make a proper day trip of it, find the perfect vantage point, and soak up a packed lineup of entertainment as Brewery Square presents the Ultimate 1940s Day Trip.

To kick off the morning, the Military Vehicle Trust will set up a barrier-free display of flawlessly restored wartime legends, from 11am – 5:30pm. Families and history buffs can walk right up to these steel titans and swap stories with the dedicated historians who keep them running.

There will also be live music from The Decadettes (1:30pm – 3:30pm), a Junior Recruit Station (11am – 5pm) where kids can spend time crafting their own traditional wartime Peg Dolls and Model Planes to take home for free.

The full, thundering Armour & Embarkation convoy will officially roll into town from 3:30pm, executing a spectacular multi-zone takeover of the streets. Weymouth Avenue will feature the heavy line-up of full-sized tanks, the Square will host the light military utility vehicles and Dray Horse Yard will become a roaring hub for the vintage wartime motorbikes.

Charlotte Frampton, Centre Manager at Brewery Square, commented: "The scale of this event is going to be breathtaking. When the convoy arrives you quite literally feel it in your chest. We've built a full day around the arrival, making it the ultimate day trip. Families can come down early, enjoy the live music, and get the absolute best view in town."
