Scaffolding has surrounded Dorchester's Roman Town House in the grounds of County Hall.

The building, the only example of a fully exposed Roman town house in the country, has been getting a spring clean.

Workers have been clearing moss and other debris from the roof and gutters and replacing broken tiles and a few which have been blown off the roof.

The town house is owned and managed by Dorset Council with the involvement of Dorset County Museum and other partners. It features floor mosaics, a sarcophagus, a well and the remains of an underfloor heating system and is probably one of Dorchester's least-known attractions, despite being free.

During the pandemic work was carried out to create a new pedestrian access, through the Colliton Park wall, and a new outdoor seating and performance area was added to the grounds with the help of grant funding.
