Dorchester's Shire Hall Museum is hosting its first Pride event this weekend.

The free, family-friendly event will take place on Sunday, June 26.

Dorset Youth Pride at Shire Hall Museum is an inclusive event welcoming all members of the LGBT+ community and allies, especially families and young people.

Thanks to sponsorship from RiskSTOP Group, Shire Hall Museum is opening for free from 12noon to 5pm and visitors will have the opportunity to take part in a range of activities, from slime making, cake decorating and jewellery making to a talk on LGBT+ history and Drag Queen Story Hour UK.

Abbie King, director at Shire Hall Museum, said: "Everyone at Shire Hall Museum is incredibly excited for our first pride event. We wanted to create an inclusive and family-friendly event because at Shire Hall Museum we believe that Pride should be for people of all ages.

"Pride is an incredible celebration but it's also a call to action. It's an opportunity to promote and support the LGBT+ community; reflecting on the history but also highlighting the work that still needs to be done. Dorset Youth Pride will be a celebration but we also hope that it will be an opportunity for people of all ages to learn and engage."

Dorset Youth Pride at Shire Hall Museum has been made possible thanks to the generous support of RiskSTOP Group Ltd, the event's gold sponsor.

Danny Lillington, managing director of RiskSTOP Group Ltd, said: "At RiskSTOP Group we're supporting Dorset Youth Pride at Shire Hall Museum because when people feel they are free, accepted and respected, we should all be celebrating. We believe in supporting our local community and always put people at the heart of everything we do."

Shire Hall Museum has partnered with other local organisations for its Pride event. On the day, visitors will have the opportunity to talk with representatives from Space Youth Project, Pop 'n' Olly, Dorset Youth Voice, Weymouth Gay Group and NHS Dorset HealthCare Trust.
