Dorchester Camera Club is presenting its 'The Art of Seeing' exhibition at the Dorset Museum in Dorchester, from February 18 to June 22.

The club is one of the most successful photography clubs in the South West and the UK, with awards won for the club and its members in regional, national, and international photography competitions.

The exhibition features travel, street, and wildlife photography, as well as prints of the local landscape and individual portraits.

An audio-visual presentation of 80 digital images by 50 club members is also featured in the display.

The members' photographs on display are evocative and inspirational. including Tony Gill's photograph 'One Step Closer To Heaven' of Colmer's Hill near Symondsbury, West Dorset.

Tony said: "I live and work in Dorset, as a landscape photographer, I find inspiration in local scenes and vistas, with misty mornings (if not the early starts!) being a particular favourite.

"This image is taken from a vantage point of nearby Quarr Hill, demonstrating its graphic beauty in such conditions, rising as it does above a sea of mist.

"Since I took the photograph more pine trees have been planted atop the hill, which has lost none of its charm as a marker in the landscape that once observed says 'you're almost home'."

Other works also include unique photographic styles using creative techniques such as intentional camera movement, as in Jane Lee's photograph 'Autumn Impressions'.

Jane commented: "I have always enjoyed taking traditional landscape and nature photographs. Recently, however, I have begun to explore more abstract, less literal interpretations through the use of creative techniques."

The club's chair Val Brierley added: "We are very excited to be showing some of our members' photography at the Dorset Museum. This is an opportunity for visitors to the Museum to see a variety of photographs from the local area and further afield."

Dorset Museum's interim director, Elizabeth Selby, commented: "We are thrilled to be showing the work of Dorchester Camera Club, which has a long-standing relationship with the museum. It is incredible to see the high quality and wide-ranging nature of the work that the members of the Camera Club produce, which we are sure will delight our visitors."

The Art of Seeing: An exhibition of photographs by Dorchester Camera Club, opens at the Dorset Museum at 10.30am on Saturday, February 18, where there will be an official opening ceremony by the Mayor of Dorchester.

The exhibition will take place in the museum's Alice Ellen Cooper Dean Community Space. Admission is free.
