The #SeeYouOnTheRoad Competition is back for 2023.

Following the success of last year's competition, Dorset Road Safe – part of Dorset and Wiltshire Fire & Rescue Service – is once again running a competition for young people aged between 9 and 16 to design a poster, social media image or animation that can be used to spread awareness of the risks of pedestrian distraction.

Sadly, there were more than 100 young people aged between 11 to 19 who were seriously injured as pedestrians on the roads in Dorset last year. This is higher than any other age group.

The number one cause of these collisions was pedestrian failing to look properly before crossing the road. The second highest cause was the driver failing to see the pedestrian.

There are two age categories in he competition (9-12 years old and 13-16 years old), with entries open until July 31.

The finalists' designs will be shared on social media by @dwfrsroadsafety throughout August, and two winners (one from each category) will be chosen by a panel of judges and announced in September.

Both winners will receive a tour of their local fire station and a £30 Amazon voucher, kindly donated by local sponsors.

Full details of the competition, including how to enter, can be found at www.dwfire.org.uk/dorset-road-safety-competition
