Dorset Police has been taking part in a national road safety campaign and has released an impactful video in support of it.
The campaign began on Sunday (19 November) and runs until Saturday, 25 November and is being led by the BRAKE Road Safety Charity.
The Dorset Road Safe Partnership, which comprises of Dorset Police, Dorset Council, BCP Council, and Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service, has worked collaboratively to produce an educational 'Push the button' video aimed at reminding children of the importance of using dedicated pedestrian crossings.
In the last four years, 588 pedestrians have sadly lost their lives or been injured while crossing roads in Dorset, and data shows that 28 of these incidents occurred less than 50 metres from the closest pedestrian crossing.
Education Operations Manager at Dorset Police, Laressa Robinson, said: "We're working with our partners to educate everyone about road safety to make sure that our roads are safe for all to use.
"The 'Push the button' video we're launching has been created to be fun and engaging so that it can be used by families to educate the youngest members of our communities about road safety.
"We hope that the role models we've carefully chosen to take part in this video will resonate with all ages and encourage everyone to 'Stop. Look. Listen. and Think' before they cross the road.
"As a team, we're dedicated to reducing deaths and serious injuries on our roads, and we believe that working together will help us to achieve this."
The video – that features role models from the Dorset Road Safe Partnership including a number of police cadets, a firefighter, a Police Community Support Officer (PCSO) and popular mascot PD Bravo – can be viewed on the Force's social media platforms.
