The first floor of a Dorchester gym is to be converted into a three-bed flat.

The Physiques And Shapes Health Club in The Grove has been given consent for the change of use by Dorset Council.

The gym business will continue to operate on the site which has previously been a pub and a restaurant. The first floor space to be converted was previously the landlord's flat when the site was run as a pub.

Planning officers says the proposed flat would be located above the gym, which would be retained, with no alterations proposed to the outside of the building, which is in the town's conservation area.

Six parking spaces on the site will be retained, one of them allocated to the new flat.
