Former war correspondent to explore Thomas Hardy's fascination with war

A former BBC war correspondent will be taking a deeper look at Thomas Hardy's fascination with war to coincide with the Hardy's Wessex exhibitions at four museums.
Kate Adie, a journalist with wide-ranging experience of reporting from war zones, will be chairing a panel with guests Dr Phillip Mallett, of the University of St Andrews, and Dr Tai-Chun Ho, of the National Chung Hsing University, Taiwan, for a discussion about the author's war writing.
The panel will explore his obsession with the Napoleonic era to his horror at the First World War. Alongside this, the panel will explore wider questions of a writers' role in war and the changing field or war reporting over the last two centuries.
Th event takes place at Dorset Museum on Thursday, August 4 at 7pm. Tickets cost £10, or £5 if watching online and are available here.
The Hardy's Wessex exhibitions run until October 30 at Dorset Museum, Poole Museum, The Salisbury Museum and Wiltshire Museum.
