As part of its new Hardy's Wessex exhibition, Dorset Museum is holding a number of creative workshops this June.

Dorset Museum's newly opened exhibition, Hardy's Wessex, takes a fresh look at the Victorian novelist and poet, Thomas Hardy, in the Wessex landscapes that shaped his view of the world. His story has been retold in new ways by the museum's collections, from period costumes to personal letters, art to archaeology.

Dorset button-making day talk and workshop with Anna Macdowell

On June 18, join Dorset button maker and artist Anna Macdowell to explore the history of Dorset button-making and take part in a workshop to make your own buttons.

Spend the morning learning about Dorset's cottage industry started by Abraham Case in the 1600s, how Dorset buttons were used in original items of clothing and what is being done now to help keep this heritage craft alive. Following a lunch break, and opportunity to explore Dorset Museum's award-winning galleries, spend the afternoon learning how to make your very own Dorset button.
