For years, local retired postmistress Cherri Dyke, had pretended she was happy, and it was alright to be the size that she was.

She struggled to keep up with her grandchildren and struggled to walk as she had a bad knee.

Weighing over 21 stone, Cherri, 73, decided to join her local Slimming World group in Dorchester with her friend as she knew something had to change.

Stepping off the scales after the first week Cherri had lost 5lb and couldn't believe it.

Cherri said: "I was amazed at all of the food I could eat and still lose weight, when I first joined Slimming World I didn't believe you could eat pasta, bread and potatoes and still lose weight - but you can! There are lots of family friendly meals, my favourite being pork and apple burgers. Having a sweet tooth, I can still enjoy things such as trifle and roulades too."

She added: "I always stay to group as this keeps me focused on keeping off the seven stone weight loss. Also listening to other members' struggles and successes makes you realise we all have the same goals which sometimes seem hard to achieve, plus talking and sharing our journeys helps.

"Of course, if it wasn't for Tracie, our Slimming World Consultant I wouldn't be where I am now! I do join the Zoom meetings and have done throughout the lockdown."

Since losing seven stone, Cherri has lots more energy, can climb the stairs more easily and is thrilled that she can now keep up with her grandchildren.

Cherri said: "My life is so much better, I feel healthier and happier than ever before!

"I am so pleased I have lost weight and kept it off throughout the pandemic as I know obesity is such a risk factor linked to Covid – 19 symptoms."
