Dorset Council's litter picking team covered 21 miles of road last week.

This included parts of the A37, Weir roundabout to Monkeys Jump roundabout, and continued amid speeding traffic, verbal abuse, torrential rain and gale force winds.

A spokesman for Dorset Council said: "Verbal abuse generally consisted of motorists shouting obscenities as they drove by. Crews also noted that, despite the speed limit being dropped to 30mph, very few drivers observed this restriction.

"We've spent four days picking the A37 and estimate another three to four days are needed to complete the job.

"In the Weymouth area, next week we will be picking the A354 ridgeway and the A354 Jurassic roundabout to Swannery Bridge.

"The dual carriageway on the A30 between Sherborne and Yeovil will be litter picked in the near future, but this has to be done using specialist contractors."
