Local Labour leader delivers view on change at the top
By Trevor Bevins - Local Democracy Reporter 24th Jun 2026
DORCHESTER Labour Party stalwart Barry Thompson said he has been surprised at the speed event events in the party have evolved.
The chair of the Dorchester, Sherborne and District Labour Party said, in his opinion, Kier Starmer was doing a "reasonable job" although his position had been constantly undermined by what Mr Thompson describes as "right wing media."
He says he met and liked Mr Burnham at a Housing and Transport Conference and voted for him against Jeremy Corbyn in the race for the party's leadership.
"I think he is very passionate and has done an excellent job as Mayor of Manchester, if he implements similar policies here in Dorset it would be good for the county," said Mr Thompson.
