New 'cafe come bar' is coming to Dorchester - with a focus on live music
By Lottie Welch 1st Apr 2021
A new café bar is coming to town, taking up shop in the old post office building.
The Last Post aims to bring more live music to the town at weekends, as well as plans for a therapy room, a space for parents to meet and lunch and cakes during the day.
Glenn Chadwick is hoping to open The Last Post on May 21.
He said: "We want to open a bar come café, with live music on a Friday night and a DJ on Saturday nights.
"During the daytime, we will be aiming at the lunchtime trade in town and with the shops opening up again, hopefully town will be a bit busier than it has been. We'll also be applying for a street licence to have tables and chairs outside.
"There's two rooms downstairs, one we're thinking of possibly having a treatment area, so you'll be able to go down there and have a massage. We've got another room downstairs and we're hoping to have some toddler groups. There's nothing in town for parents like that since Munchkins went, but because it's downstairs, it's away from the main bar, it's completely private. We've got some good plans for it."
There will be a simple lunchtime menu, with cupcakes and coffee available too.
Glenn added: "We're calling it The Last Post for two reasons, one is because it used t be an old post office and two, I'm ex-military. I was in the Army.
"At the end of the evening when we call last orders and when we call time, we shall play the Last Post.
"It's a lovely building, I hope it's going to be a success, I don't see why it shouldn't. I do believe strongly that when we're all allowed back out hospitality is going to bounce back big style."
Staff aged 18 and over are needed at The Last Post. Experience is not crucial as training will be given. Email [email protected]
