DORCHESTER residents are being warned about possible overnight noise from railway works in the coming days.

Track maintenance will be underway between 11pm and 6am on Monday March 4, Tuesday 5th and Wednesday 6th on the Weymouth to Bristol line.

Network Rail say that while staff are expected to keep disturbance to a minimum the equipment being used means that some noise is quite likely.

"Our teams will be working to install some track components which allow the smooth operation of switched – where trains change from, one track to another. For this work we will be using small equipment and hand tools.

"The equipment we use means some noise is unavoidable and we sincerely apologise for this in advance," said the company.

It has made a 24-hour helpline available on -3457 11 41 41 should there be a need to contact the company.

Later in the month there will be changes to services from Monday 18 to Wednesday 20 March.

In addition, rail improvement work also affects trains between Yeovil Pen Mill and Dorchester West on Sunday 17 March.

Replacement buses are planned between:

  • Yeovil Pen Mill and Weymouth – Sunday 17 March
  • Dorchester South and Weymouth – Monday 18 to Wednesday 20 March

Replacement buses will only pick-up/drop-off at Dorchester West station on Sunday 17 March.

South Western Railway will operate road transport between Dorchester South station and Weymouth and have agreed to accept valid GWR tickets for travel.

The pick-up/drop-off location for Dorchester South station is on Copper Street – about 500 metres from Dorchester West station.
