Pavilion in the Park enjoyed its first day of opening and serving customers on Friday after the brand-new café was taken over by The Alcohol Education Trust (AET).

It has proved a great success as the team have welcomed more than 250 customers a day.

The AET is thrilled to have move into its new home, which also offers an office for the charity, public toilets and a community space, which will open on May 17.

The charity, which works to keep young people safe around alcohol

rasied funds over two years to build the eco pavilion and moved in earlier this year and guests were invited to a special viewing last month.

Helena Conibear, CEO of The Alcohol Education Trust, said: "This has been a two-year journey for us, and what a journey it has been with the pandemic. We are so grateful to those who have made this possible and what a treat to have a proper office at last.

"The weather was kind and the sun shone and we had over 250 customers a day - we coped.

"The coffee machine was red hit, so were milkshakes, waffles, ice creams, our home made cakes and bakes, jacket potatoes and we can't wait for our hot specials to start on Tuesday - lasagne, cottage pie, macaroni cheese."

The café is open 9am to 5pm Tuesday to Sunday.
