Pirates, princesses, dinosaurs and Dalmatians were spotted at the Prince of Wales School in Dorchester today.

The school was one of many up and down the country to celebrate World Book Day.

Staff and pupils were invited to dress up as their favourite book character and took part in literary activities throughout the day.

World Book Day is a charity that is celebrated with a national event every year. Its aims are to promote reading for pleasure, offering every child and young person the opportunity to have a book of their own.

The charity says that reading for pleasure is the single biggest indicator of a child's future success – more than their family circumstances, their parents' educational background or their income, and they aim to see for children, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, with a life-long habit of reading for pleasure and the improved life chances this brings them.

If your school celebrated World Book Day, you can send photos and details to Nub News editor Francesca Evans on [email protected]
