A new sports pavilion is being proposed for the recreation ground at Portesham, near Dorchester.

An outline planning application for the building has been lodged with Dorset Council by Chesil Bank Parish Council.

It says the building, on the Elworth site, will replace the existing pavilion which it describes as being 'in a serious state of disrepair'.

The replacement building, if approved, will include a kitchen and changing rooms. Its design is based on the replacement cricket pavilion at Little Bredy, which the parish council says works well.

A change of location is also proposed – to place the new building closer to the existing junction with the road which is used as an access to the nearby allotments and tennis court, which will be refurbished to create a multi-use games area.

Two other site options are also being considered should the preferred option not be accepted.

Public comments on the application remain open until January 3 on the Dorset Council planning website, reference 2022/06092.
