POLICE officers are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward after an attempted robbery in Dorchester town centre.

The incident occurred between 1pm and 2.30pm on Monday 23 December 2024 in the area of Trinity Street.

The victim – a local man aged in his 80s – was approached by a group of people aged in their late teens. It is reported that the group took the man's walking stick and hit him on his legs.

Police Constable Paul Humber, of Dorset Police, said: "Thankfully, the victim did not sustain any lasting serious injuries.

"This incident occurred in a busy area in the days leading up to Christmas when a lot of people would have been out in the town centre.

"I would ask anyone who saw what happened, or captured anything of relevance on footage, to please get in touch."

Anyone with information is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk or by calling 101, quoting occurrence number 55240198059.

If you would like to make an anonymous report, you can contact independent charity Crimestoppers on Twitter at @CrimestoppersUK, by visiting their website or by calling 0800 555 111.
