Dorchester Police have thanked a helpful member of the public who was able to clear a large tree blocking a road.

Officers were called at 10.34am this morning (Friday) to reports a tree had fallen and was blocking Poundbury Road between Normandy Way in Dorchester and Bradford Peverell.

Thanks to the help of Mr Swain, the road was cleared by 12.45pm.

A spokesman for Dorchester Police said: "Thank you to Mr Swain of Bradford Peverell Farms who kindly helped out Dorchester patrol officers today when they were called to this large tree across the road between Bradford Peverell and Dorchester.

"Thanks to Mr Swain, the road was only closed for an hour. Fortunately, it's not a busy road at the best of times, but we thank those who had to divert around us for their patience."
