Police have urged witnesses and anyone with dashcam footage to come forward after a serious road traffic collision near Dorchester.

Dorset Police received a report at around 8pm on Saturday (29th) of a collision involving a black Ford Focus and a silver Mercedes on the A37 at Holywell Cross.

The driver of the Ford sustained serious injuries and two passengers sustained minor injuries. All three were taken to hospital for treatment.

A third passenger in the Ford – a six-year-old girl – was airlifted to hospital in a serious condition.

The occupants of the Mercedes were uninjured.

The road was closed to allow emergency services to treat the injured people and safely deal with the incident. It was reopened around 5am on Sunday morning.

Sergeant Sarah Jones, of the traffic unit, said: "We are carrying out a detailed investigation to establish the full circumstances of this collision and I would urge anyone who witnessed what happened to please contact us.

"I would also like to hear from anyone who may have captured anything of relevance on dashcam footage.

"Finally, I would like to thank members of the public for their patience and understanding while the road closures are in place. These are necessary to allow the emergency services to respond to the incident and for an examination of the scene to be conducted."
