Sports bar plan for Dorchester

A SPORTS BAR is being planned on the approach road to Dorchester's West railway station.
Dorset Council is being asked to allow a change of use for a first-floor retail unit at Great Western House, built in the mid-1980s.
The proposal for the 350square metre space, once used as a cycle shop, comes from Mr Phil Campbell of Dorchester-based D1 Bars & Leisure.
The planning application says the business is likely to employ two full-time and 5 part-time staff and is hoping to open from 11am until midnight throughout the week.
No material changes are proposed to the outside of the building, other than signage, with the existing retail uses on the ground floor, including a drinks outlet and an electrical shop, remaining.
A single door to the first floor is in the middle of the building.
A drawing of the bar area shows three snooker tables, three pool tables, five areas for darts, a kitchen and bar with table seating for around 40 people.
Public comments on the planning proposal remain open until June 7th with an application expected to the licensing sub committee of Dorset Council for a Premises Licence, prior to opening, should planning consent be given.
