People aged over 50 and eligible for the Covid-19 vaccine are being urged not to delay in getting their jab.

Appointments for first doses at the mass vaccination centres are still available for the rest of March, but they are filling up fast.

So, if you are in an eligible group - meaning you are 50 or over, have a health condition that puts you at greater risk, or are a health or social care worker - and you haven't had your first dose or booked it, now is the time to do so.

You can book online or by phoning 119.

Last weekend was the busiest for the Covid-19 vaccine programme in Dorset so far since its launch just over 100 days ago. A record 711,000 vaccines were given across the UK.

Dr Karen Kirkham, local Dorset GP and clinical lead for the Dorset Covid-19 vaccination programme, said: "The Covid-19 vaccine gives you the best protection against coronavirus.

"We'd like to urge people who are eligible to accept the offer of a vaccine as soon as they can to protect themselves and those around them. So, if you are in any of the eligible groups, please don't delay.

"If you know anyone, any friends, loved ones or others in your community who are, please share this message and urge them to accept the vaccine offer."

Kate Harvey, Dorset HealthCare service director, said: "Teams across the healthcare system in Dorset are working incredibly hard to make sure vaccinations are delivered in a safe, efficient way for everyone in our communities as vaccination continues to offer the best protection against coronavirus.

"The large number of people already vaccinated have given overwhelmingly positive feedback and we encourage others to book very soon."
