Thousands enjoy return of Dorchester Christmas Cracker

By Francesca Evans 14th Dec 2022

Thousands got into the festive spirit for the return of Dorchester Christmas Cracker on Sunday.

An estimated crowd of 3,000 braved freezing temperatures to take part in festivities, which included a variety of trade stalls in the town centre and Corn Exchange, food stands and live music.

A Santa hat parade attracted 300 participants, led by family favourites Olaf the snowman from Frozen and Paddington Bear, loaned by Julia's House children's hospice.

And Father Christmas was also on hand to meet youngsters, thanks to Dorchester Lions Club.

The event was organised by representatives from Dorchester Chamber for Business, Dorchester BID and Dorchester Town Council, and is sponsored by Kingston Maurward College and Everycare Dorchester.

It was the first time the Cracker event had been held as an all-day event on a Sunday, rather than on a Thursday evening.

Steve Bulley, vice-president of Dorchester Chamber for Business, described the event as "buzzing" and said the new all-day format worked very well.

He thanked the hard work of all volunteers involved in organising the event, with the committee already looking ahead to next year.
